The professional tennis tour has announced human line evaluator will be phased out entirely from the 2025 season .
The Association of Tennis Professionals , the governing body of the pro lawn tennis electrical circuit , has confirmed the change , which will “ optimise accuracy and consistency . ”
Several of the events already rely on the technology , including the US Open and Australian undecided major tournaments . At Wimbledon there ’s Hawk - Eye technical school for challenges , but the French Open still bank on umpires looking at the shabu marks on the mud to tell if the ball has hit the line or not .
The latter two tournaments will still maintain that right , and may choose to the stick with the tradition of having humans calling the old in - out .
“ This is a landmark consequence for our play , and not one we ’ve reached without careful thoughtfulness , ” Andrea Gaudenzi , ” the ATP president , said in astatement .
“ Tradition is core to lawn tennis and pipeline judges have played an authoritative part in the secret plan over the age . That said , we have a responsibility to embrace innovation and new technologies . ”
