OPINION : We pass plenty of time on this site write about theproductssuch assoundbars , projectors , and tv set , but not as much about what you watch on them . With the season finish ofDisney Plus ‘ The Acolyte wrapped up , I feel like flipping that active beat for the latest Sound & Vision pillar .

Slight story spoiler abound if you ’ve not reckon the series but I ’ll begin out by say that I ’m not a ‘ hater ’ of the series but I do ultimately feel disappointed by what transpired .

Created by Leslye Headland , who was one of the creative forces behindNetflix‘s Russian Doll , disunite The Acoylte from the modern Star Wars chronology and setting it 100 years before the events we ’re intimate was a good determination .

The Acolyte with The Stranger

To separate it from characters who have become to a fault conversant was initially a hint of fresh aura . A chance to secernate a account differently , in an era less recognizable with Modern reference is what I ’ve wanted from more late Star Wars films and serial publication .

So it ’s a disgrace that the fibre were all so flat .

Spoilers ahead

The series started as a mystery – which is fair enough considering it ’s about the emerge presence of the secretive Sith – but the first three / four installment unfolded glacially , the character depth for the Jedi aside from Lee Jung - jae ’s Master Sol was not much more than the blurb on the back of a book cover . By the time sequence five came around , I doubt many viewers specially care about them or their fate .

And the Gemini – Mae and Osha – played by Amanda Steinberg as a grown up , was a dull character to fashion a series around . Despite everything that encounter to the twins they came across as emotionally insensate and aloof , but that could be say for the majority of grapheme in the series . And I ’m not convinced by Osha ’s progression through the series , her determination in the finis felt it ring untrue to what come before .

The show preserve the spectator at arm ’s duration , whether through the enigma or the Jedi ’s default aroused restraint , which makes a very good instance as to why you believably should n’t make a series envelop around the emotionally flavourless and noetic Jedi order .

The Acolyte with The Stranger

The characters were n’t particularly engaging . I do n’t understand Sol ’s abstract thought throughout the serial publication . He wants Osha as his padawan for reasons that he does n’t seem particularly clear about ( to protect them from what , exactly ? ) , which mirrors the serial ’ own confusion .

A waste

The use of Carrie Anne - Moss was a barren , effectively only seen through flashback , which is a criminal waste ; and from a visual position , this might be the blandest - looking entry in the Star Wars TV series . For a series that cost a reported $ 180 million , it does n’t look like that money is up on the screen .

Who cognise that shot in Wales would be so expensive ?

But the fights were stunningly choreograph , lay the recent film trilogy ’s labor fights to ignominy ; Episode 5 was a picky highlight with its fast and trigger-happy activeness . It ’s more of what I want the serial to be , and what I thought the series was fit to be . In heart , The Acolyte did n’t experience up to expectations . The series feel like a gradation back rather than a step forwards .

The Acolyte with The Stranger

What we got was a slowly - paced , sometimes thoughtful but meandering serial publication , with a whodunit that was n’t particularly interesting and part that miss engagement . There was so much hope with The Acolyte but I ’m not certain it quite knew what it want to be , which talk of the spacious identity crisis Star Wars seems to be give-up the ghost through .
