OPINION : Is the end near for 8 K telecasting ?
to begin with this calendar week it Sony unwrap that it had no plans to launch an 8 K TV in the near future – that did n’t come as a surprisal to me considering at itsEuropean launching for its 2025 TVsthere was scarcely a voicelessness about anything 8K.
And that yawning silence regarding 8 jet can be pick up mighty across the TV industry .

Sony ’s last 8 K TV wasback in 2022 . LG last released oneback in 2023.TCL give up discommode with it in 2024 stating there was little to no need for it . Hisense does n’t seem to release 8 jet TVs outdoors of China despite re - joining the 8 K Association in 2024 .
8 K was stand for to be the next evolution in the television experience , offering super high resolution images that would blow 4 K out of the water . And to be fairish to 8 M , it does exactly that , but no one is concerned in it .
The future looks far off and dim for 8K
I ’ve said before that it ’s a disgrace that 8 K has n’t gained momentum . Watching real 8 K depicted object is astonishing – the level of brightness , the clarity and detail levels , the mountain range of colours – it ’s easily better than anything thebest 4 K TVcan draft .
But 8 kelvin hurt from expectations and a timeline that it could n’t survive up to . The reality is that idiot box brands tried to force 8 K and they were run into with indifference from those who make the content to public who ’d buy the TVs .
Some would say they ’re too expensive , but consider there are 97 - column inch OLED goggle box lead for £ 24999 , I do n’t consider cost was a real issue . Buying an 8 K video is like buying a Ferrari – do you require one ? No , but for those who could open it , it ’s a pearl in the ocean .

Others might say there ’s not enough 8 KiB content to warrant buying an8 K TV , but despite 4 one thousand TVs being the average , many mass do n’t watch 4 KiB on their 4 thou television set . More often than they ’re follow a springy programme in HD . Or worse yet , in Standard Definition .
Broadcasters and streaming provider have n’t help 4 kB by curb it to their bounty tiers on their cyclosis service or not even bothering to charge those event in 4 green in the first place .
In light source of the restriction that have wrap up themselves around 4 kibibyte , what chance did 8 K have to succeed ? In hindsight , not much .

8K was ahead of its time
8 K did n’t wave because it arrived too soon , pushed too early by companionship skip to slip a border district on their contender by creating a new market they could eclipse . Unfortunately , they jumped the torpedo .
So where does that impart 8 honey oil ? Well Samsung continues to campaign 8 K as the good telly that it offers , but even its messaging has had to adjust . It ’s not about delivering the best 8 K experience , it ’s about making 4 K and HD content look even better . That ’s not the most exciting subject matter .
But all is not lost . The last place of refuge could be in the chassis of projector .
I ’m not a bet someone , but the convenience of projectors could give 8 K the collection it ’s missing . Samsung ’s Premiere 8 KB projector is one I ’ve come across a few times over the last few years , and it looks impressive . JVC has projectors that can do 8 kilobyte , and Hisense has an extremist - short - throw projector , although presently it ’s not useable alfresco of China .
There ’s a future for 8 K , but instead of its future being as bright as the sunshine , it ’s now the twinkle of a remote star . You have to wonder if it ’s going to go the way of 3D earlier rather than later .
