Verdict
A knock-down , energetic and exciting soundbar scheme from LG , while the S95TR fixes some flaw from previous efforts , it ’s not all successful in everything it tries to do .

Introduction
As soundbars go , LG has been up and down . The S95QR was eventually updated into a commanding flagship model , but the USC9S was underwhelming .
LG ’s audio engineer have gone back to the drawing gameboard and returned with the US95TR ( or S95TR in the US ) . A flagship immersive soundbar that aims to put you the right way in the middle of your favourite TV appearance and films .
Designed to work in gross synchronicity with LG ’s TVs , where does the S95TR declension ? Towards the highschool of theS95QR , the low of the US9CS or somewhere in - between ? Let ’s dive in .
Design
Like the bars before it , the S95TR comes in a voguish if unflattering grey / black coloring material – a usable effort that is n’t too interested in style . The subwoofer and rearward speakers partake in the same esthetic so it ’s not as if they ’re give-up the ghost to spruce up your home movie theatre elbow room , but that ’s fine .
What ’s more singular about the S95TR compared to rival competing sets is that it feature three upfiring speakers – two at either end of the main bar to picture audio upward for Dolby Atmos audio , while the speaker in the pith is designate purely for sneak dialogue from the saloon onto the cover .
Connections are housed in a adjourn country in the whole ’s underside , of which there is an HDMI remark , output ( eARC / ARC ) , digital optic out and a USB input . The subwoofer is enormous and a front - open fire unit , which gives it some leeway on where to put it in a room . My preference was to keep it closer to the main taproom .
The rearward verbaliser have a triangular embodiment to them and the reason is because they feature side - firing speakers as well as an up firing one . The hope is for a wider spreading of sound behind you to expound the size of the S95TR ’s performance .
What continues to disappoint is that the display is a serial publication of dots , and quite honestly I have no musical theme what they indicate . If it ’s meant to simplify things then it ’s done the reverse . The LG Soundbar app provides plenty more entropy and I would suggest you use it instead .
I seldom annoy with the physical distant control – it ’s the same as the one packaged with LG ’s previous soundbars but given the nature of the show , it just seems like a waste of batteries to keep the remote track .
Features
The LG S95TR does n’t boast as many channels asSamsungand JBL ’s flagship saloon ( both tied at 11.1.4 ) . Here you get 9.1.5 for fifteen channels of auditory sensation .
WOW Orchestra combines the speakers in the telly with the soundbar to expand the soundstage and create a more immersive execution . WOW Interface means the TV and soundbar partake the same user interface , so or else of having to deal with the video ’s interface and a different one for the soundbar , WOW Interface makes it unlined . evidently , these are feature film that only work withLG television receiver .
The LG Sound Bar app I mention antecedently allows you to switch modes and inputs , contain what audio cartroad is playing , adjust the pinnacle and bulk of verbalizer and begin the AI calibration process .
I try out the calibration appendage and did n’t notice a difference between how it sounded pre- and post - calibration . I think it ’s worth a endeavor to see if there ’s difference , after all , not every elbow room is the same and if you have many reflective surfaces then you ’ll want to see if it has an shock .
Wireless connectivity include Wi - Fi ( naturally ) Google Cast ( that has to be enabled first),AirPlay 2,Spotify Connect , Tidal Connect andBluetooth 5.0(SBC , AAC ) . A fairly pestering government issue I had with the Bluetooth connection was that after fall by the wayside the connection the soundbar would keep trying ( and successfully ) connecting to my phone , to the full stop where I had to re-start the soundbar .
Soundtrack compatibility include Dolby Atmos , Dolby Digital , DTS :X , and DTS Digital Surround . Apparently it does supportIMAX Enhancedbut there ’s no mention of it on the internet site .
LG has pull off things with its HDMI passthrough financial support . It can passthrough 4 K HDR10 and Dolby Vision signals , and featuresVRRandALLMsupport . While there ’s mention of 4K/120Hz passthrough for gaming , VRR appears circumscribed to 60Hz so some gamers wo n’t get the best carrying out usable through the soundbar ’s inputs .
There are eight sound modes in AI Sound Pro , Clear Voice Pro , Music , Standard , Cinema , Sports , Game , and Bass Blast . Again , it seems a little weird that there ’s no reference of IMAX Enhanced . Maybe I ’ve miss something somewhere .
There ’s no built - in voice assistance with LG offer ‘ Works with ’ varieties of Alexa and Google Home , which means you need to connect a native Alexa ( or other twist ) to get hands - free ascendance with the soundbar .
Sound Quality
There were things that I liked about theUSC9Sand other things I ultimately feel reserved about . LG has taken the feedback from the US95TR onboard and improve some areas but other aspects could use further improvements – more on that later .
First , this an energetic and strident sound system . In the past I ’ve felt that LG soundbars have been too crisp and sibilant but this is a much better effort – smooth and more natural in its Cinema preset , and the AI Sound Pro modality has been ameliorate as well , striking a better balance between the more crucial stuff ( foreground legal action ) without blowing up the desktop military action and creating distracting noise .
The subwoofer packs a wallop with films such as Tenet . The open natural process succession feature some utterly thumping humbled frequencies that I was worried was going to shake up the floor above . The active ambit of this soundbar system is telling , the jump in quiet and loud are swift and impactful .
With John Wick Chapter 4 , the subwoofer feels better integrate into the frequency compass , with Wick ’s fist perfectly exploding into the training beam at the photographic film ’s start . Bass here sounds rich but the highs are address well enough too . In an activeness sequence by and by on , deoxyephedrine shattering is both detailed and sharply communicate along with the meaty hits and rush .
Dialogue intelligibility is well handled for the most part , though the out of box setting with the upfiring centre do feel a petty cautious . Raising it up a petty cosmetic surgery better from the soundbar and into the mouth of those verbalize when watching Civil War .
Playing around with the modes and Cinema is fantastically declamatory , while Standard favours less energy . The AI Sound Pro voice less warm than the Cinema preset and the soundstage is smaller too – voices also sound minor but seem to have a somewhat more specific locating on screen . It sounds more natural , which is a steady melioration on model from previous years .
The WOW Orchestra feature is estimable too , the integration of low relative frequency is much better handled and the time it accept to switch to the mode is fast . I actually think it might be the good way to enjoy this soundbar system in that it help pick background details well and position on and off - screen better with the telly speaker system in sync . The soundstage in Civil War becomes wider and taller for a more spacious result .
With TV and a current of The 100 onPrime Videoand in the soundbar ’s AI Sound Pro , the Dolby Surround sound track is more balanced , with highs that are sharp and bright , although it ’s the first time I notice a touch of sibilance . It never gets to being whistle tart , but there are trace of it whether it ’s men or women talk .
The rearward speakers provide a unanimous support in terms of creating an ambient soundscape . They fill out the information behind you well to create an enveloping sound but there are moments where the rearward loudspeaker do n’t seem attached to the front speakers . With the ‘ Can You Hear the Music ’ sequence in Oppenheimer , when the sound of atoms rushes forward and move to the rearward verbaliser , there ’s a detectable gap before it reaches the environs . It break the levels of immersion .
The rear speakers are n’t the most elaborate either . Whereas the front speakers voice punchy and taut , the rear speakers are a little loose and lacking in preciseness .
The braggy affair missing with the US95TR however is its gumption of tiptop .
It ’s not that it is n’t there but the hemisphere of sound the LG S95TR hopes to create is not a detailed one . As Maverick takes off in the experimental military plane at the root of Top Gun : Maverick , the sound of the jet taking off never really reaches above me . With Blade Runner 2049 as the spinner descend on Sapper Morton ’s farm , there ’s only a faint sense of defining it in the overhead channels . I ca n’t really place where the spinner is fall from .
With music , the LG S95TR is an advance . The eloquence of its tuning means it no longer sound kinky and harsh – it ’s a clearer , weightier performance , not hem into the bodywork of the soundbar but more broad . Highs are bright and crisp but not to the fatiguing extent it was with the USC9S. There ’s better remainder and a more convincingly natural performance .
It is cave pretty by the AI Sound Pro mood , which sounds flimsy . It also splits audio between the front and rear talker , which just sounds mussy – like too little butter propagate over too much scratch . The Music preset is a serious choice , though I regain it voice incisively like the received preset . Which seduce me wonder why have both ?

Should you buy it?
The LG feature some pound bass part and a sinewy , way - filling phone . It ’ll convey excitement to any flick and TV show you watch .
There ’s something lacking with the overhead duct . It ’s a low flying rather than high fly performance .
Final Thoughts
The LG US95TR ( or S95TR ) is an advance on the USC9S but there are still areas where LG could meliorate . The horse sense of summit is n’t really there with this system , nor do the rear speakers find quite as attached with the front speaker system . That feeling of a cerebral hemisphere of sound is not one the S95TR produces specially often . The US95TR does n’t feel like a big improvement on the S95QR either .
It does plight with its power , excitement and overall better audio , but it ’s not quite up there with the best models such as the JBL Bar 1300 andSamsung Q990D. Still , it ’s a dance step in the correct direction from LG .
