Key Features
Introduction
Xiaomi has the mid - range marketplace in its sights with the release of the Xiaomi 14 T , offering a plethora of features usually reserved for flagship smartphones .
That not only includes uniform slimline bezels around the whole phone , but a premium display experience with a 1.5 K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate , a trio of Leica - branded electron lens – include a telephotograph not often run into on mid - rangers – and what look to be tidy sum of processing power from the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra .
While I ’m not yet ready to deliver my concluding thoughts on the mid - fire warden , I spent a scrap of time with the Xiaomi 14 T at a pre - launch event , and here are my initial impressions .
Design and Screen
Both the Xiaomi 14 T and its more expensive sibling , theXiaomi 14 T professional , offer a novel design that Xiaomi ’s calling a “ Titan design ” . I ’m not quite sure what makes it particularly Titan - like away from the Titan Grey colour finish , but I ’d be lying if I order I did n’t care the look of this year ’s mid - ranger .
Both earphone have take the ever - pop industrial look , complete with flavorless edge and , in the case of the regular 14 T , a completely matte frosted chicken feed back . The 14 T Pro has a slightly curved arse that should match a small more snugly into the decoration of the hired man , but I had no complaint when handle the even 14 T at the hands - on event .
That twofold glass offering has an aluminium alloy frame sandwiched between , and the company claims that it ’s 116 % stronger than the aluminium used in last year’sXiaomi 13Trange . That should help protect it from scathe when being dropped , but that ’s not something I could test at the event – without getting into a lot of difficulty with Xiaomi reps , anyway .
Continue the tour of the strengthened atomic number 13 metal anatomy and you ’ll number across a new textured power button . It ’s something we ’ve realise from plenty of manufacturers before , basically giving you a tactile way to tell the departure between the volume and powerfulness clitoris – specially important when both are nestled next to one another on the correct - hand side of the twist .
It ’s also jolly long-lived for a mid - ranger , offering full IP68 dust and body of water immunity that ’s only available on a prize few choice in the family , and Xiaomi claims it ’s actually safe down to a boost 2 m of water for up to 30 minute of arc .
Where the Xiaomi 14 T really shines is in the screenland department ; not only is the OLED screen pack with technical school normally exclusive to gamy - end phones , like a 1.5 K resolution , 144Hz refresh rate , 12 - turn colour depth and a thumping 4000nits peak brightness that delivered a really dainty view experience during my hands - on time , but the bezels are jolly lean for a mid - ranger – and along all four border too .
That might sound like a given , but seem closely at most smartphones and you ’ll notice that it ’s not – especially in the mid - range market place where there ’s one ‘ fat ’ side , usually at the bottom of the screen . The unvarying slimline bezels around the entire screen make the telephone set look and feel way more expensive than it actually is .
There is a really insidious curvature at the edge of the silver screen , though I would n’t describe this as a curved projection screen . It ’s more rounded so that side swipe and similar gestures find nice and suave , instead of catching on the disruption between the frame and the glass as with most truly flat concealment .
When it come to color options , you ’ve got quite a few to pick out from ; apart from the aforesaid Titan Gray colour , you could get it in Titan Blue and Titan Black and , if the glass is n’t to your liking , you could always go for the Lemon Green finish ended with a 100 % recycle PU leather rear .
Cameras
Cameras are a huge focus when it fall to the 14 T scope as a whole , with both the regular Xiaomi 14 T and 14 T Pro sharing the same Leica - partner camera setup represent of a 50MP main , 50MP 2.6x telephoto and 12MP ultrawide .
That might not sound that impressive , but the 50MP camera is power by the 1/1.31 - inch Light Fusion 900 sensor , take up from the flagshipXiaomi 14 . Xiaomi claims that this boosts scant inspiration by 32 % when combined with the all-embracing f/1.6 aperture , and that should better low - light photography in particular but that ’s something I ’ll be putting to the psychometric test for the full review .
As such , I did n’t get much of a chance to experiment with the Xiaomi 14 T ’s camera ironware at the hand - on event , though the few sample snap I did take seemed to offer telling quality and plenty of light , specially for a mid - commando .
It ’s also deserving noting that Xiaomi is lean heavily on AI camera processing this year , with four Master of Laws to focus on four areas of tv camera processing – FusionLM , ToneLM , ColorLM and PortraitLM . There ’s also 8 K video recording , along with 10 - bit LOG transcription and Master Mode to provide more pro - unwavering controls for more advance users .
Performance and Software
The Xiaomi 14 T and 14 T Pro are both fairly evenly check in condition of figure , screen and tv camera technical school , but that ’s not the case with operation .
The 14 T Pro gets treated to the top - close Dimensity 9300 + chipset while the regular 14 thyroxin gets the multiplication - onetime – but still pretty powerful – Dimensity 8300 Ultra , paired with either 12- or 16 GB of RAM and either 256- or 512 GB of storage .
It ’s pretty voiceless to gauge universal carrying into action at these hand - on upshot , especially without the ability to run any quick benchmark trial , but it felt pretty speedy during my metre with the equipment , no doubt aided by the slick 144Hz refresh rate .
That ’s paired with a fairly standard 5000mAh stamp battery and fast 67W wired charging that should cede a full commission in 45 minutes consort to Xiaomi , though it does trail behind the 120W wired and 50W wireless on offer from its more exchange premium sibling . That phone will get a full heraldic bearing in just 19 moment if Xiaomi ’s claims are on the chump .
The smartphone boasts Xiaomi ’s young HyperOS establish on Android 14 out of the boxwood , though it ’s very much business as usual if you ’ve used any Xiaomi devices in the past – it just feel a little trickster .
The key addition for the Xiaomi 14 T is , of course , procreative AI capabilities . Xiaomi has bundle in quite a few new features here too , including live translation not only just for boldness - to - font conversation but phone Call and even on-line meetings with support for third - party apps like Zoom and Google Meet . That translate textbook can also be summarised , as can any audio transcription on the phone .
It ’ll also feature Google ’s Circle to Search tech , though it ’s coming via an OTA update on 6 October and , as such , not something I was able-bodied to quiz during the work force - on .

Final Thoughts
The Xiaomi 14 metric ton look to offer a whole master of ceremonies of premium smartphone tech without the consort price tag . While it ’s not quite as open as the more expensive Xiaomi 14 T Pro , I ’d argue that the benefits are moderately minimum , with key features – like video display tech , camera and battery life – consistent among the two .
It ’ll certainly be interesting to see how the Xiaomi 14 T performs in our suite of benchmark tests . Check back for our full reexamination very shortly .
