OnePlus issue its highly look for tablet , the OnePlus Pad , earlier this year . The £ 449/$479 tablet is a tempting option for Android tablet fans , boasting a super - smooth 144Hz display , great battery life and optional keyboard and stylus accessory .

The question is , what ’s next for the company ? Will it release abudget - focused tablet ? What aboutlaptops ? Now that OnePlus isn’tjusta phone ( and , to be fair , audio ) companionship , the possibilities are sempiternal .

With so many questions circumvent the future of OnePlus and its programme , Trusted Reviews was given the chance to speak with Kinder Liu , President and COO of OnePlus , who helped throw some light on the company ’s plans for pad and why it ’s not making a tablet anytime soon .

yield the focus that OnePlus has put onbudgetandmid - range smartphonesover the retiring few years , usually under the Nord brand , I suspect that the company might also seek this in the tablet distance . After all , there are plenty of extremely democratic cheap tablets , ordinarily in the form of theAmazon Fire tablets , and Amazon does have a bit of a fastness on the budget lozenge market .

However , that does n’t seem to be the caseful – unless the fans require for it , that is . Liu explain that the “ focus remains on the higher closing of the price segment , but if feedback propose that a lower - spec and more affordable [ sic ] , we are open to explore it ” .

“ It is very early day in the family for us ” , Liu teased , suggesting that programme could very well convert in future . But given the popularity of the mid - rangeOnePlus Pad , it ’s probable that ’s the kind of winner they ’ll need to replicate .

Okay , so if not tablets , then what about laptop computer ? If OnePlus desire to make an ecosystem of devices that rival the likes of Apple and Sony , it ’ll surely need some kind of laptop computer , right ?   on the face of it not .

“ Our vision for engineering puts smartphones and tablets as the master devices for people to work and toy , meaning that PCs and laptop are not something we ’re explore currently . ”

There is some logic to the apparent lyssa though , and it ’s down to an ever - changing desire from consumers . Liu explain that “ applied science is constantly evolving and that ’s never going to interchange . What is relevant and ‘ essential ’ to consumer today may not be in 5 , 10 or 20 years from now . ”

That is a fair point – I ’m sure that citizenry thought the idea of afoldable smartphonewould’ve been unattainable as recently as 10 days ago – but what aboutuntilthat point ? I guess short - full term addition are n’t the name of the secret plan for OnePlus .

Oh , and as a playfulness by , I could n’t serve but postulate Liu justwhythe OnePlus Pad did n’t ship with a charger despite many tablet still providing brick in the boxful , andespeciallywhen one of the tablet ’s central features is fast charging .

I mistrust in my review that it was down to the fact that it ’s mainly OnePlus fans corrupt the Pad and that many will already have a fast courser from their telephone set , and it seems like I was on the money . As Liu explains , “ Our core audience for our tablet in Europe is appear for a value from their machine : flagship features , without flagship Price . They ’re also potential to be existing OnePlus user . ”

“ We therefore have taken the decision to take the charger out of the box in Europe to keep the upfront RRP as gloomy as possible , but also encourage survive OnePlus client to practice charger they ’ll already own on this gimmick , ”

It does make common sense given the consecrated OnePlus fanbase , many of which have been fans since the launch of the OnePlus One , but that could also have the inverse effect of put off those who do n’t already have a OnePlus gadget .
