Apple has issued a stark warning that the EU ’s desire to increase the interoperability of Io could damage iPhone owners ’ privacy .
In a newwhite paper , the company has point the finger foursquare at Facebook owner Meta . It says Meta would have the run of many of Apple ’s primal proprietary technologies if the EU is able to lucubrate the Digital Markets Act to ascertain Apple open up .
Apple forecast such a move would enable Meta to “ alter functionality in a way that raises concerns about the privacy and certificate of users . ” It points out no company has made more requests than Meta to get at Apple ’s technology stack , Reutersreports .
Meta wants access to functionality like AirPlay , CarPlay , iPhone Mirroring , Messaging , Continuity Camera and loads more . Apple reckons , if the EU ’s goal are achieve , companies like Meta “ may attempt to maltreat ” the new laws . It read the “ abuse of the DMA ’s interoperability mandate could exhibit your individual information . ”
If the plan come to stem , Apple order iPhone users would essentially inhabit in a raw world where Meta could “ see every phone call they make or invite , dog every app that they use , read all of their photos , look at their files and calendar outcome , lumber all of their passwords , and more . ”
Apple warn that : “ If a user asks Siri to read out loudly the latest subject matter received via WhatsApp , Meta or other third parties could indirectly make access to the contents of the subject matter . No one is in a perspective to infer the full risks of that . ”
Interestingly , Apple reckons Meta does n’t even need this accession and say the interoperability petition are “ completely unrelated to the genuine use of Meta external devices , such as Meta smart specs and Meta Quests . ”
Meta shot back this week , with interpreter Andy Stone comment : “ Here ’s what Apple is really saying : they do n’t believe in interoperability . In fact , every time Apple is called out for anticompetitive behavior , they fight down themselves on privacy grounds that have no foundation in realness . ”
