Google is rolling out a newAndroidfeature that ’ll free up storage on users ’ devices without losing data or wholly uninstalling apps .
The novel app offloading feature film will auto - archive certain apps , removing up to 60 % of the warehousing infinite they lodge in on the handset while retaining the important user data .
Google is pitching this as a feature article for developers to head off perfect uninstalls of their apps . The app icon will stay on the twist , think of user can but knock it to download the meat of the app .
It ’s essentially the same asApple has been offering to iOS and iPadOS usersfor the last few years . Users will have to choose in , but it ’s certainly a dainty way to conserve resources on our mobile equipment .
“ automobile - archive is a new feature that tolerate users to free up space on their twist without the need to completely uninstall an app , ” Google write on theAndroid developer ’ web log .
“ Once the user opt in , infrequently used apps will be partly removed from the gimmick to save space , whilst the app icon and the user ’s personal app data will be preserved . When the user wants to begin using the app again , they can just tap to re - download it and pick up where they left off ( as long as the app is still available on Google Play ) . ”
The characteristic has mostly work well on Apple equipment , but there is the odd occasion where it can be troublesome . From my own experience , I call up it offloaded the Tile app for my Bluetooth trackers , making me think I ’d leave behind my sound at the grocery store , when really the tracker could n’t get in touch to the telephone set because the app had been offloaded .
Hopefully Google will enable users to add exception for apps they perhaps do n’t practice that often , but need to keep around for emergencies .
